GLAVREF seeks a Finance/Accounting professional with expertise in reviewing and interpreting financial information and understanding complex financial reports. We seek a leader to act as a finance advocate and assist board and staff with understanding economic trends and the impact on GLAVREF. The ideal candidate for our finance/accounting professional profile will possess the following qualifications: Experience with nonprofit financial management, including developing budgets, restricted and unrestricted grant reporting, financial modeling, risk management, filing Form 990s, and overseeing audits. Willingness to bring a financial lens to strategic planning and decision making. Experience overseeing investment portfolios and asset management. Willingness to lead the finance or audit committee or serve as the board treasurer. Prior nonprofit board experience preferred.
GLAVREF supports research focused on health issues with direct relevance to Veterans. In support of these efforts, GLAVREF provides diverse services to investigators and project personnel through grants and contracts administration, human resources management, and technical support for grant submissions. GLAVREF also supports initiatives and education activities for VA clinicians and investigators.
GLAVREF is a VA-Affiliated research foundation also known as a non-profit corporation (NPCs). These like-minded institutions are based on a federally authorized statute passed in 1988. Today, GLAVREF is one of 79 active VA-affiliated research and education non-profits serving VA across the country. We recommend that Board members review and understand the authorizing statute(s). A very informative overview of the characteristics of the NPCs is posted on the National Association of Veterans Research and Education Foundations website at www.navref.org.

Mission Statement
We build partnerships to advance research and education for the health of our Nation's Veterans
Description
Established in 2018, the Greater Los Angeles Veterans Research and Education Foundation (GLAVREF) is the result of a merger between two long standing non-profit corporations that served Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Health System (VAGLAHS). GLAVREF builds partnerships that strengthen the power of scientific discovery and education to improve the lives of Veterans. Our organization believes that excellence in administration and capacity building will contribute to a stronger, more responsive, and nimble research operation at VAGLAHS. All research studies and educational programs supported by VA NPCs benefit the VA’s research mission including patients and their families.
