Are you a neatnik? Does order bring you joy? Our "Shelf Reading" team keeps the library’s materials arranged in their exact place. Choose an area of shelving to keep tidy. When browsing, some people don’t put items back in the proper spot. Some topics are so popular, the shelves just look messy. Maintaining items in order helps the librarians and customers find what they need, and the staff can put materials away more quickly. If you do well as an independent volunteer rather than a committee member, this opportunity is made for you!

Mission Statement

The Friends of the Penfield Public Library is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) registered nonprofit organization whose goal is to raise funds, primarily through used book sales, to provide financial support to the Penfield Public Library for non-operational expenditures for the benefit of its patrons.

Description

For more than 40 years, the Friends of the Penfield Public Library (FPPL) have provided assistance to the Penfield Public Library. Founded in 1977, the Friends support quality library service through fundraising, volunteerism, and advocacy. This membership organization has annually provided extra funds to underwrite programs for all ages and financial assistance to cover extras not included in the library’s budget. We also are looking for advocates to educate our elected officials about all the library has to offer.
The Friends always welcome new members. Joining the Friends provides you with the opportunity to join a community that believes that the library is a key contributor to Penfield's quality of life. We recognize that individuals have different amounts of time, commitment, and financial resources. Please become active in an area of interest to you, including leadership of the Friends Executive Board, assistance with publicity and other communications, membership, fundraising, or helping library staff for ongoing tasks.
Consider donating materials in good condition for our book sales and shopping those sales! Your contributions of time and talent help the Friends support our vibrant community resource. You may reach us at friends.penfield.public.library@gmail.com.
