For the second year in a row, PARK365 has been awarded Third Place in the Best Playground category for central Virginia by The Best of Virginia, a publication of Virginia Living. This award exemplifies our commitment to the community and our program participants and their families, as we strive to provide enriching experiences each and every day.

SOAR365 welcomes the support of volunteers with basic gardening knowledge & expertise who can help us to maintain PARK365 and keep it looking attractive and tidy for visitors.

Volunteer duties include:

  • Each Gardening Master will be asked to "adopt" a section in the park.
  • Once a week (based on the volunteer’s availability) the Gardening Master will come and weed the adopted section for 1-2 hours. The GM is encouraged to report any issues that may be observed, i.e. pests that need to be removed, soil conditions that need to be amended, nearby plants or bushes that appear to be sick or dead and need to be removed, etc.
  • The Gardening Master will be required to bring all the tools that needed to maintain the adopted section (i.e. garden gloves, hand tools, bucket, etc.). The Gardening Master is expected to take all necessary safety precautions with personal tools so as not to create hazards for park visitors.
  • This opportunity does not require direct interaction with our program participants or park visitors. However, the Gardening Master is expected to serve as a friendly and welcoming ambassador for the mission of SOAR365.
  • Volunteers who make a six-week commitment will be recognized with a sign in the park, acknowledging their service i.e. "We are thankful to volunteer Jane Smith for donating her time every week to help maintain this section of PARK365 with love and care!"
  • Each week the volunteer will report his/her completed hours to the Volunteer Engagement Manager plus any observations. We’d also love to get selfies of the volunteer while working and pictures of the adopted area.
  • Prior approval is required before engaging in other duties such as watering, planting new plants (from an approved list), and pruning.
