We need lots of help in at our beautiful park and are looking for volunteers who are eager to learn more about gardening.

You must be fully vaccinated against Co Vid 19, wear a mask and practice social distancing. If you are under 18 years old you must have a parent sign a release of liability.

We need help with projects that any volunteer could do such as weeding, mulching, raking,. and we have some more advanced projects such as cutting back perennials such as salvias, fuschias...

If you have a group of more than 5 people we can also provide indiviual projects and dates/times specific for your needs.

Mission Statement

Friends of Heirloom Flowers is a volunteer gardening group that partners with the City of Fremont to maintain one of Fremont's historical parks. We have work parties every Tuesday at Shinn Park & Arboretum, 1251 Peralta Blvd., 10:00 to noon, then a social tea and coffee.

We introduce heirloom flowers into the gardens and maintain the integrity of the plants already there. We work as a flexible team, share ideas, preserve history, and enjoy the outdoors while making new friends.

Our quarterly membership meetings include speakers in gardening-related fields, and we take field trips to various gardens or related places of interest.

Description

We encourage all levels of gardeners to come help us maintain Shinn Park & Arboretum - seasoned gardeners to novices. We also welcome members whose schedules allow them to join us one or two Tuesdays a month. Just bring pruning shears, gloves, and a willingness to work.

We also encourage students to earn their extra credit and community service hours in our gardens; they just need to be mentored by one of our members.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 14
  • You can volunteer for the entire 4 hours or just a partial amount. We do need you to state how many hours you would like to commit for planning reasons.
