Description

The F. Scott Fitzgerald Literary Conference, founded in 1996 to commemorate the 100th birthday of celebrated American author F. Scott
Fitzgerald, continues to celebrate Fitzgerald's life and work by honoring great American writers over a series of days around his birthday. We
also celebrate Fitzgerald's connections to Rockville and his paternal ancestors were from Montgomery County, Maryland. We honor the fact
that Fitzgerald, along with his wife Zelda and his daughter Scottie, are buried, in the cemetery of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in
Rockville. All of celebrations around these require planning to invite master class speakers and workshop leaders to a venue, normally in
person, but now held virtually. Planning takes place over a 12 month period and includes an advertising budget, social media support,
development of materials (some online some handed out such as a Program), registration support etc.
A cash award short story contest is held for adults and youth and nominated student Fitzgerald scholars at a Montgomery County high schools
are invited to a session with the honoree and another with an educator/writer. County English teachers are also offered free workshops..
