ORGANIZATION: Trips for Kids - National

Grant Volunteer
Our organization is seeing an experienced grant writer who has access to proper grant search tools to identify grant opportunities for our organization. We would LOVE and welcome help in writing some of the grants identified if time allows for the volunteer.

Our staff is a tiny team of two people who rely on the support and compassion of our national volunteers. We are a small nonprofit with contacts all across North America.

Who we are

Trips for Kids started as a dream in 1988 by founder Marilyn Price, who wanted kids to experience the wonder that comes from riding bicycles in natural places. Since then, Trips for Kids programs have sprung up through a network of chapters located throughout the U.S. and Canada.

We are a nonprofit youth development organization that uses the bicycle to inspire kids' lives through our trail rides and earn-a-bike programming. We work with kids from all socio-economic backgrounds with an emphasis on youth most in need. In 2017 we launched a new national umbrella organization to coach and guide local leaders, build new chapters and grow the movement to get kids active and healthy and off of the couch!

In order to support those chapters, identify new ones and increase the number of kids who benefit from our transformative programs, Trips for Kid National is seeking national candidates to expand our Board of Directors! Our Board of Directors supports the work of Trips for Kids National and provides mission-based leadership and strategic governance, acting with full authority and responsibility to develop policies for the operation of the organization. The Board monitors the organization’s financial health, programs and overall performance; and provides staff with the resources needed to assist our chapters in serving young people throughout North America. The organization is currently a staff of two dedicated full-time employees with occasional support from national volunteers.

We are in need of strong leaders who wish to provide their time, talent, resources and financial support to our growing organization. If you believe in the transformative power of the bicycle and want to help get more kids connected to riding and nature, we want to hear from you. Mission Statement

To provide transformative cycling experiences through a network of chapters that promote healthy, recreational lifestyles, environmental awareness, and personal empowerment for young people of all communities, especially those most in need.

Description

Kids and nature. Kids and bikes. What is more natural than getting a kid on a bike? Bicycling can be a horizon-expanding experience for a kid, giving a sense of wonder, independence, achievement and fun!

Trips for Kids is the nation’s largest youth development bicycling organization. We have improved the lives of over 230,000 youth through transformative cycling programs since our first small chapter was started by CNN Hero Marilyn Price in 1988. We have since organically grown to a vast network of chapters offering bicycling programs for up to 10,000 youth annually in the US and Canada. Young people aged 10 - 17, mostly underserved, come to us from neighborhoods, schools, agencies and community organizations. Our programs are helping to combat the physical inactivity crisis, promote equitable access to safe places to play and exercise, provide opportunities for physical activity in and out of school, and build self-esteem, personal skills and learn environmental stewardship, thus mentoring youth to achieve better life outcomes. On August 1, 2017, we launched a new national umbrella organization to assist chapters, improve program quality and grow the movement to get more kids on bikes and into nature.
