Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service in Marin County

Monday, January 17th, 2022

While many see Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a day off, we see it as a "day on." It's an opportunity to start your year in the spirit of volunteerism and service, continuing the legacy Dr. King, who spent his life working to better the lives of others.

Join us in making #MLKDay a day "on" by participating in one or more of these volunteer opportunities happening in Marin County during the month of January:

#MarinCity80: Performing Stars MLK Day

"In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, Performing Stars will participate in a Day of Service at the Clarence & Mattie Boatman Community Garden operated by Woman Helping People."

Location: 59 & 69 Cole Drive, Sausalito, CA

Time: January 17, 2022 9:00 am - noon

This event is in partnership with Mt. Tam United Methodist Church.

San Pedro Fire Ridge Safety MLK Day of Service Event

In the year 2022, mitigating against the effects of climate change is of highest priority in order to protect our communities and our world for future generations.

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. and his commitment to creating the beloved community, come volunteer at the San Pedro Ridge and help remove flammable broom to reduce risk of wildfires - an everpresent effect of climate change.

When: Saturday, January 30th, 8am - 12pm, rain or shine

Where: Meet at the end of Garden Ave (139 Garden Ave, San Rafael, CA 94903)

What: We will be pulling French Broom (an invasive weed) and removing piles from the woodland area along the Osher Jewish Community Center property to a larger pile that will be chipped and hauled away by the county.

Bring: Work gloves (if you have them - there will be a limited supply available), boots or sturdy shoes, long sleeves, pants, eye protection (sunglasses are sufficient), hat, water, snacks.

**All volunteers must be 10 years or older and COVID-19 social distancing protocol will be followed.

Golden Gate National Parks MLK Day of Service Event

This year, Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is on Jan. 17, 2022, but we'll be celebrating the Civil Rights leader's life and legacy all weekend with volunteer projects starting on Saturday, January 15th.

Observed each year on the third Monday in January as "a day on, not a day off," MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all to volunteer to improve their communities. Check out ways to help out in your national park and register here.

Mission Statement

We know that passion alone isn't enough when it comes to creating strong nonprofits. That's why we work with aspiring and established leaders every day to help them build the skills and connections that can take their impact to the next level. With confident and prepared leaders, our nonprofits will be better equipped to create healthy, happy communities. CVNL has engaged individuals in volunteerism continuously for more than 50 years and expanded to Napa county in July 2014. Every day, passionate individuals like you dedicate their work to advancing our communities, vulnerable populations, natural landscapes, and cultural institutions. But without the critical know-how in operational essentials like fundraising, board governance, and volunteer recruitment, their causes may fall short of their potential. CVNL brings local leaders the expert guidance and professional resources they need to build resilient, impactful organizations.
