Recruiting Organization: Honduras Child Alliance

Calling artists, magicians, scientists, and musicians . . . We seek teachers, computer wizards, camp counselors and more!

Honduras Child Alliance seeks volunteers who are energetic and collaborative, with a red-hot motivation and some relevant talents to help make a difference in the lives of Honduran children. You will be immersed in rewarding and collective work with our Honduran Project Managers, other global volunteers, and our children. Some ability to speak Spanish is a plus but flexibility, a sense of humor, and problem solving skills are a must! Live at the beach and work with amazing kids! Watch this video to discover what it’s like to volunteer with Honduras Child Alliance in El Porvenir, Atlantida, Honduras!

Housing is available at our 2 clean, comfortable, and secure volunteer houses and costs $35-$49 (USD) per week depending on the length of your stay. The houses each have a full kitchen where volunteers prepare their own food. Generally, there are 5-7 international volunteers staying at each house.

Diversity is our greatest strength, and volunteers of any nationality, race, gender, or religion are welcome to work with Honduras Child Alliance. Volunteers who are 21+ years old are preferred and we are especially interested in long-term volunteers. The minimum volunteer period is 6 weeks but many volunteers stay for 3-6 mos. or even a full year. We are always able to be flexible in accommodating your preferred starting date.

HCA's educational enrichment projects are based in the beach community of El Porvenir, on the Honduras north coast. We live and work next to the Caribbean Sea with pineapple fields surrounding us on three sides and mountain waterfalls and the cloud forest, just minutes to the south. While the beautiful village that houses our projects is semi-rural and poor, the small city of La Ceiba is only 20 minutes away. La Ceiba is a lively place with a mall, an open-air market, ATMs, inexpensive restaurants, and excellent medical care. La Ceiba has a modern airport (LCE), two bus stations and more taxis than anyone can count! The Honduras Child Alliance is small, but with the energy of devoted volunteers, together we are enriching lives and providing access to opportunities for children who would otherwise have none. Your work makes a difference at Honduras Child Alliance!

HCA volunteers cover their own traveling or incidental expenses and live in our comfortable and secure volunteer houses. Two in-country managers live on-site. Volunteers enter Honduras on a tourist visa that should be renewed every 90 days.

Volunteer Opportunities Porvenir English Program 'plus' (PEP+): Educational enrichment classes for elementary age children, teens and adults in El Porvenir.

The Porvenir English Program 'plus' (PEP+) provides free English instruction for all ages but that's not all. In addition to English, volunteers work in teams to provide computer instruction, art projects, literacy in Spanish, Healthy Snacks and much more. Most of our students are elementary-age and morning and afternoon classes are offered in 3 locations, for a total of 6 groups. Teens meet twice a week and there is also a dedicated adult class that meets 3 evenings per week. This project began in April 2010 and is ongoing.

Volunteers work morning and afternoon sessions with children on Monday thru Thursday and also have class on Friday mornings. With 3 community-based classrooms, all in walking distance from the volunteer houses, our volunteers and Honduran 'ayudantes' operate programs in teams of 2-4 (depending on group size). There is a progressive curriculum but also plenty of room for creativity in how you choose to work with your groups. You're encouraged to teach with songs, movement, games, art, and other fun activities. PEP+ operates continuously from February thru early November. VAP operates from November thru January.

Vacation Activities Program (VAP) -October 2021 - January 2022!

The Honduran school year starts in February and ends in early November. We seek volunteers who can make a commitment specifically for November, December & January for this "summer camp" enrichment program for children at 3 locations in El Porvenir. Volunteers work together to develop an emotionally safe and respectful environment in which children can be curious and creative. Your focus is on literacy in Spanish and English, computers, environmental sustainability, and a variety of other subjects based on the expertise of the volunteer team. There’s always time for art, music and sports and also plenty of time to play!
