Assessing Viewpoints Remotely
ORGANIZATION: APPALACHIAN TRAIL CONSERVANCY
Please visit the new page to apply.
The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is working to protect the beauty of natural viewpoints along the Trail via a Visual Resource Inventory (VRI) process. One part of this process requires field work, where individuals can receive training to volunteer their time to hike to these view points an asses their qualities.
The second part of the process relies heavily on the knowledge of Remote VRI Participants.
During a virtual meeting, Remote VRI Participants discuss view importance ratings that are centered around viewpoints located within a specific geographic region. Remote VRI Participants are expected to have a knowledge of the local area which could include any of the following qualifications: trail club member, state historic preservation office, land trust or other partner organization, academic professionals, resident, trail enthusiasts.
By registering for this opportunity, you will be expressing an interest in attending at least one two-hour long virtual meeting where you will be sharing your voice on how your regions viewpoints are rated. A meeting schedule will be shared with participants during the onboarding process. However, please note in advance that meetings will be scheduled Tuesdays and Wednesdays during work hours.
This opportunity is currently available to folks throughout the Pennsylvania section of the Appalachian Trail: South Mountain, Cumberland Valley, Kittatinny Ridge South, Kittatinny Ridge North.

Description
Appalachian Trail (A.T.) is a project built on civic engagement. It exists because people like you step up and help out in a variety of ways, outdoors or inside. Activities can be physical (such as Trail work or boundary maintenance), creative (like contributing photography or writing), or organizational (like planning or leading activities).
Volunteers gain new skills through their work. Whether you volunteer because you enjoy time in nature, want to forge new friendships, or appreciate having a deeper connection to a place you hold in high regard, we are glad you are here.
There are a variety of ways to contribute your talents and your time.
