Recruiting Organization: Shelters to Shutters (National Capital Region)
Mentors volunteer their time to provide guidance and support to S2S clients during their first year of engagement. Success depends on building trust, commitment, and clear professional boundaries. Mentorship focuses on the following:
· Hold a series of regular meetings with your Mentee, which may be held in person, by phone or by video depending on what you and your Mentee agree to.
· Approach the relationship from a Coaching perspective. Offer new ideas, perspectives, and constructive feedback with care, respect and consideration, without being directive. You serve as a professional role model for your Mentee, you are not a supervisor. Encourage and support your mentee in finding answers and solutions for themselves rather than giving them all the answers.
· Provide Mentee with a safe, supportive, judgment free space for open dialogue about their work and life experiences. Whatever might present itself in your conversations, coach the mentee toward good decisions and alternatives in their lives.
· Recognize, reflect, and honor your Mentee for the progress and good choices they are making in their life and career. You can play a tremendous role in boosting your Mentee’s self-confidence simply by reflecting their successes, congratulating them on a job well done, and expressing pride in their work.
