Recruiting Organization: Women's Justice Institute
The Women's Justice Institute (WJI), in conjunction with the ACLU, is seeking a few volunteers to help with a project with an estimated time minimum commitment of 15 hours between January and the end of March, with most of the hours being flexible and at the volunteer's availability. Our preference is for paralegal or law student volunteers, but we are also open to people who have excellent critical thinking skills.
Volunteers will read and summarize data that we have received from counties around the state of Illinois about policies in various jails concerning the treatment of pregnant people in custody, visitation policies for parents, and other reproductive justice issues. The final data will be used to create a report, which will contain the most comprehensive data about treatment of pregnant people in jails across the state ever compiled. We need volunteers to make sure the project is a success. While most of the time will be flexible, we do need volunteers to attend an initial training meeting, though we hope to offer two separate training time options.
Volunteer's need the ability to read large amounts in English and critically summarize the information in writing. We hope that volunteers will have a passion or interest in learning about issues of mass incarceration, reproductive justice, or other related issues.
If you think this might be a project that appeals to you, please email us at alexis@womensjustice.net. We ask that you send your resume and a one paragraph explaining your interest/skills. Thank you!
