About us
In 2014, two compassionate women from different parts of the world came together to inspire positive actions and peaceful resolutions. We pick up the resettlement process where the U.S. refugee resettlement agencies leave off. Our Vision is "bridging the hearts and minds of all people ".
The need
Building Peaceful Bridges (BPB) is a nonprofit organization supporting people of all faiths whose mission is to foster multicultural relationships by assisting in the integration of refugees into American society and educating communities on the challenges facing refugee populations through their stories.
We assist in family resettlement by building trust, hope, resilience and empowerment to refugee families. Our programs include Mentoring/Sponsoring, Cultural Educational Events, and Donations. As such, we are looking for a Translator that can help us better build trust and communicate with our Arabic-speaking families.
What you will do
- Be a part of a team that supports a refugee family.
- Meet with the family 1+ times a week (virtually, unless in-person visits are attainable) to build a bridge of communication between the Arabic speaking individuals and the BPB representative.
What you need
- A character that thrives on fluidity, exhibits adaptability, and remains calm under pressure.
- Arabic language skills to include speaking, reading and writing.
- An open mind, a global world view, and a strong sense of humor!
Volunteer details
Translators give between 1 and 3 hours a week (or more if interested) and commit to 6+ months. All support is virtual, with the anticipation that face-to-face meetings will resume in the future.
What will you get?
This is an unpaid, volunteer position. Instead of compensation, our Translator volunteers get to partner and with experienced BPB volunteers to develop the skills needed to make a difference in the lives of refugee families.
How to apply
If you are looking to make a meaningful difference in the community, the state, the country, the world, then please reach out today. Please email us at info@buildingpeacefulbridges.org and include a statement telling us why you want to be a Translator, and a snapshot of your relevant skills, abilities, and languages spoken.
Building Peaceful Bridges is a 501(c)(3) organization.
