Nonprofit Communications Internship
Now Accepting Spring and Summer 2023

  • Virtual & hybrid options available
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Networking opportunities

Resounding Joy enhances the human experience with therapeutic applications of music. We uplift individuals and families with challenging conditions, help them achieve their goals, and support health and wellness throughout the community.

Our music therapists are highly-trained professionals, who after graduating with an approved degree in music therapy, complete a 1,200-hour internship and a challenging national board certification test. Music therapists’ education encompasses biology, psychology, and neurology, as well as training in voice, guitar, piano, percussion, and often other instruments to accommodate various evidence-based interventions.

We offer our powerful and cost-effective music therapy services through four main programs:

  • The Ariana Miller Healing Notes program for hospitalized/medically resilient children or children with disabilities
  • The Sounds of Service program for military service members, veterans, first responders, and their families
  • Sounds of Community, an inclusive service to any population in need - most recently isolated older adults, first responders, and unhoused individuals
  • Sounds of Legacy, music therapy for older adults with dementia

Essential Functions :

This internship will provide the right candidate with the opportunity to grow and build a foundation in the marketing and development fields by having a direct impact on the function, productivity, and visibility of Resounding Joy. Candidates will assist in numerous and varied projects designed to meet the educational goals of the intern. Potential specialties and areas of responsibility include:

Advocate (Specialty filled until Summer 2023)

Advocates will attend and participate in community collaborative meetings, such as those hosted by the County of San Diego and the San Diego Military Family Collaborative, represent the organization in the community, and provide feedback to staff on opportunities to advance music therapy within underrepresented communities. Advocates will contact local civic organizations such as Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions’ Club, and arrange with staff or Board members to make presentations. Interns with this concentration will also determine possible partnerships with academic institutions and student organizations.

Donor relationship management

Brighten people's days with a handwritten note, a phone call, or a social media announcement/call out. Create thank you templates and manage donor databases, including reporting. Build reports and follow-up with programmatic data to manage a portfolio of up to 50 families.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion

Advance equity and access by providing support to the DEI committee, observing meetings, and implementing various tasks, encompassing a broad spectrum of communications and advocacy, to advance equity within the organization and community.

Digital Marketing Assistant (Specialty filled until Summer 2023)

A marketing internship will focus on creating email newsletters, practicing design for social media and print, exploring SEO and Google Ads, managing social media accounts, and creating other marketing content.

Event and PR management

Event management interns will organize efforts to facilitate small local, monthly events in San Diego County, as well as organize and submit press releases and manage local event calendars.

Storytellers

Storytelling interns will focus on collecting stories, conducting research on community needs, and crafting compelling content. Storytellers may choose the medium of their choice, whether audio/radio, grantwriting, fundraising communications, social media, or filmmaking.
