The purpose of this position is to establish and nurture working relationships with organizations whose constituents may benefit from the educational services provided by Within U. The Community Outreach Assistant will develop and maintain partnerships with local economic development agencies, religious organizations, community centers and non-profit organizations serving low income communities. The role will be focused on building and sustaining relationships that result in increased utilization of Within U's services.

Duties and Responsibilities

Community Outreach & Events

-Seek advantageous partnerships with corporations, vendors, and individuals

-Develop and maintain guidelines for participation and partnership with constituents in the community for outreach and fundraising opportunities

-Seek opportunities to promote the organization at community events and in the media

-Increase awareness of Within U’s mission and programs offered

-Assist the Executive Director with awareness campaigns and educational sessions related to the STEM program

-Represent the organization at community events and third party fundraisers, including planning, staffing, setting up, breaking down, and following up

Volunteer Management

-Recruit, train, manage, and motivate volunteers

-Recruit and retain dedicated volunteers to provide support for Within U’s mission and fundraising efforts

-Recruit volunteers for special projects as needed

-Focus on volunteer retention, create positive ongoing relationships, and deepen volunteer engagement

-Share insight and information with Executive Director regarding stated or prospective philanthropic intentions of individual or corporate volunteers


Skills and Educational Requirements

-High school diploma or GED required

-Confidence using computer systems and learning new software

-Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate with people from diverse communities

-Strong written and oral communication skills

-Ability to express organizational standpoints when serving as a Within U representative

-Excellent attention to detail; organization skills and ability to multitask

WITHIN U is committed to serving the communities of Maryland, Washington DC, and Virginia by delivering STEM education to students of all ages and preparing them for careers in the fast-paced information technology industry. WITHIN U specializes in STEM education, emphasizing cyber security, networking, network security, and cloud computing industry-recognized certifications. Services provided by WITHIN U includes mentoring, career development preparation and workshops, apprenticeships, career workshops, networking events and partnerships with local businesses.

WITHIN U provides certification training courses for AWS, Cisco, CompTIA, EC-Council, Palo Alto, Splunk and VMware.
