Recruiting Organization: Steven Olikara for Senate

Steven Olikara is a proud Wisconsinite, the son of Indian immigrants, a musician, and a nonprofit leader running for the U.S. Senate. We believe that for too long, powerful forces have divided us against each other and left our most vulnerable communities behind. We are building a new, more inclusive, compassionate, and honest form of politics, one that champions dignity and opportunity for all. We welcome volunteers looking to offer any support to the campaign at StevenOlikara.com/volunteer, or fill out an application here to be considered for a Lead Volunteer position.

Lead Volunteers will work with the Olikara for Senate campaign leadership to mobilize community members across Wisconsin for one of the most important elections nationally in 2022. There are volunteer opportunities in field, finance & operations, and communications. Lead Volunteers need to be able to provide between 5-20 hours per week, remote or in-person, and applicants should indicate their area of interest:

  • Field Lead Volunteers will participate in phone banking, digital organizing, canvassing, and data management. There will also be opportunities to gain experience in community and relational organizing.
  • Finance & Operations Lead Volunteers will conduct research, data management, online outreach and engagement, and support in event coordination. There will be opportunities to be trained in fundraising, donor prospecting, and candidate call time.
  • Communications Lead Volunteers will provide editing and some limited drafting support on public and private campaign correspondence, policy documents, press outreach, and social media channels. There will also be creative opportunities for those looking for experience in design, emerging social media, and video editing.

Lead Volunteers should be able to share their interest or experience in creating a more inclusive, honest, and compassionate form of politics. Team Olikara trains all staff, interns, and volunteers on effective organizing strategies utilized by political campaigns including those of Barack Obama, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders. Lead Volunteers will develop their work portfolio with campaign leadership to ensure it provides desired professional development and experiences. Class credit is available at some colleges and high schools.

All are welcome to apply and we are filling positions on a rolling basis. We especially encourage students, veterans, seniors, BIPOC, formerly incarcerated individuals, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ people to join Team Olikara! Lead Volunteers are currently unpaid, but Olikara for Senate will be hiring more part and full-time staff in the near future.
