Volunteer mentors are the foundation of our organization. After completing our 90-minute mentor training, and a 2-hour Mentoring for Equity Workshop, mentors are paired with a student at one of our 12 locations. Mentors are currently virtual only, and are given all the resources they’ll need to run a successful session with their student.

Sessions include a virtual read aloud together, an online literacy activity, and lots of time to build relationships with their students. Mentoring sessions will be 30 - 45 minutes long and include 4 parts - energize and goal setting, reading a book, literacy activity, and closing and reflection. Our experienced staff are present the entire session in case a mentor has a question or needs some assistance. We will run a background check for every volunteer.

*** You may mentor 30-45 minutes weekly as a consistent mentor, or a few hours monthly as a substitute mentor.

*** High School Juniors and Seniors are also eligible to become mentors.
