ORGANIZATION: Idealist.org

Recruiting Organization: Lantern Community Services

WHO WE ARE:

Lantern Community Services is an organization that champions the independence and well-being of New Yorkers who were formerly homeless or have recently aged out of foster care through supportive housing. Our programs - which have proven results in health, employment, education and skills - are delivered inside our residences and tailored to each person's needs.

We are looking for a tutor with NEDP experience and knowledge to help residents qualify and pass the NEDP test. The National External Diploma Program (NEDP) is an applied performance assessment system that assesses the high school level skills of adult and out-of-school youth. Many of our residents have started to prepare on their own but need help to complete this demanding goal. We would appreciate finding a volunteer who can create lessons for clients as they work through their course materials.

Lantern provides housing and comprehensive supportive services for individuals and families affected by homelessness, mental health concerns and chronic illness, as well as young adults who have aged out of foster care. To ensure the ongoing safety of populations served, our government funders require all volunteers to undergo a background check. For in-person volunteers, they must undergo a background check and fingerprinting. For any questions regarding background checks and/or fingerprinting, please contact Human Resources at isadyr@lanterncommunity.org.

If you're interested in this position please feel free to contact us at volunteer@lanterncommunity.org. Thanks so much!
