AmeriCorps VISTAs (Volunteers on Service to America) spend one year building capacity for poverty alleviating organizations. They work 35 hours a week and may work a second job or take classes during their service term. VISTAs are paid a modest stipend bi-weekly, benefits, and upon completion of service have a choice between an education or cash award. Focus: HOPE's programs deliver workforce development training and education, early childhood education and asset-based community development work. These programs aim to create a pipeline of opportunity from cradle to post-secondary education.

Through the work of the individual in this role, we hope to strengthen and expand our Equity & Community Empowerment program's capacity through research, education, and the development of resources and events for community growth.

Member Duties:

Identify goals for the Urban Learning & Leadership Collaborative (ULLC) ; Establish program to continue Dismantling the School-to-Prison Pipeline (DSTOPP) ; Support with the annual March for HOPE event ; Support the work of Generation of Promise (GoP) colleagues to get committed speakers and mentors for program days ; Build a "rolodex" of individuals tasked with Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) work in the Detroit Metropolitan area. ; Produce the HOPE Speaks podcast ; Identify grants, foundations, requests for proposals and other funding sources for work by the ULLC, DSTOPP and GoP programs.

Skills: Candidates must have strong interpersonal, problem solving, multi-tasking and organizational skills. This member will work wonderfully with teams and exercise information- based decision making and priority setting. Strong writing and research skills preferred
