Recruiting Organization: BEST Kids, Inc
Do you pride yourself on being the best big brother or often receive compliments for being a great friend? If so, this is the opportunity for you!
BEST Kids partners youth in DC's foster care system with fun, caring, and CONSISTENT adults in the community, providing them at least one non-judgmental, non-biased safe space for them to explore the world, ask questions, and find themselves. At this time, our waitlist has mostly black male mentees who have expressed interest in or need for a positive black male role model in their life. We aim to provide them with just htat but need your help to do so!
We are a 1:1, community-based program, which simply means mentors are matched with 1 mentee and interact with them out in the community. Due to the pandemic, "community" can mean either virtual or in-person, depending on the comfort level of the match (we will provide COVID guidelines to follow during in-person outings).
BEST Kids Mentoring Program is guided by the belief that all children are talented. Through comprehensive training and immense staff support as well as monthly experiential-leaning-based peer groups, we both equip and assist our volunteer mentors to effectively encourage our youth to discover and develop their unique skills and abilities. Together with youth, we learn to develop a positive sense of self, acquire and hone teamwork and group social skills, and contribute productively to our society.
Apply today to be an influence on (and learn from) the next generation of men!
