PROGRAM: The fulltime & part-time members of the VT Youth Development Corps AmeriCorps State Program (VYDC) implement diverse youth initiatives, fostering positive development & building resilience to help youth avoid opioid misuse & other unhealthy behaviors, transcend the effects of COVID-19, and the gain academic, social, & job skills needed to thrive. SITE: The VYDC Leader supports AmeriCorps members serving across VT who inspire over 4,000 youth to connect with their communities and make healthy choices. VYDC members serve at outdoor & alternative schools; afterschool, summer, & mentoring programs; teen & drop-in centers; STEM programs; and youth civic organizations. Based on positive youth development model, members implement initiatives for youth to cultivate resilience that build competence, self-worth, compassion, & connection. VYDC (1) Fosters youth engagement in civic discussion, community service, & environmental stewardship. (2) Promotes healthy lifestyles via exercise, recreation, & nutrition. (2) Supports youth struggling with opioids & other substance misuse, mental health, or homelessness. (3) Develops volunteer, program, & non-federal cash & in-kind resources for AmeriCorps-led programs. (4) Creates curricula & leads activities to help youth succeed in school (e.g., literacy, arts, history, and science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics--STEM). (5) Designs programs to teach job & life skills. (6) Promotes programs via social & other media and builds & strengthens community partnerships. VYDC Leader & members gain professional skills & experience to support them in service and subsequent careers.
COVID-19: The VYDC Leader supports AmeriCorps members’ efforts across Vermont to address the short- and long-term impacts of COVID-19 on youth. AmeriCorps, NCCC, FEMACorps, VISTA, & Peace Corps experience preferred. Visit www.vermontyouthamericorps to learn more! Office Location: Berlin, VT
Member Duties: The VYDC Leader is part of a professional team that runs a statewide AmeriCorps program. Duties: 1) Support members: visit members at sites; develop esprit de corps; support members in successfully completing service; foster leadership skills & a lifelong commitment to service. 2) Help members develop activities that promote positive youth development. 3) Plan community service events & Dr. King Day of Service. 4) Implement public relations through traditional & social media. 5) Enhance & develop partnerships with community members & agencies. 6) Develop newsletters & social media content. 7) Plan activities for youth. 8) Implement professional development training activities for members. 9) Identify community needs related to & support members in implementing COVID-19 relief & other recovery efforts.
Min. Age: 21. Previous AmeriCorps service preferred. Private transportation & valid license: mo. travel to member sites. Send cover letter, resume, & contact info for 3 references.
