LIFEbeat is looking for a talented professional to join our Board of Trustees as our Treasurer. Your financial experience will help guide us as we enter an exciting new chapter in our organisation’s development.
LIFEbeat is a UK registered charity founded in 2009. The organisation’s mission is to improve the emotional wellbeing of young people - giving them the skills and inspiration to overcome the challenges they face, navigate the divisions in society, and lead healthy and purposeful lives.
After twelve years delivering our varied creative programmes, we are entering a new chapter. We have exciting ambitions to expand our work to even more young people across the country; young people, who, given the challenges of Covid-19, might benefit from our work more than ever.
We are seeking a highly competent finance professional to join us, preferably someone with experience in the sector. Our new Treasurer will be committed to the young people we serve, with the skills and expertise that can help us to develop and robustly deliver our ambitious vision of growth.

ABOUT YOU
Our successful candidate will have the ability to take a considered and clear view on strategic issues and understand what it will take to realise our vision. You will have a deep understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship; ideally, ideally you will have been a trustee before. We welcome applications from candidates who have experience working with young people or have worked within the charity and/or youth sectors.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

- Significant experience in finance at a senior level.
- Substantial professional and/or personal experience of a field or fields relevant to LIFEbeat’s work, e.g. charity sector
- A high level of literacy and numeracy
- Ability to collaborate and work as a team, especially on decision-making.
- Ability to represent the organisation professionally as it pertains to the role. For instance, creating and maintaining professional relationships with accountants and auditors
- Understanding of the role of governance in charities, ideally having been a trustee before
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
THE POSITION
Roles and responsibilities
Trustee - Treasurer Role
- Monitor the financial administration of LIFEbeat: checking proper accounting records are kept and ensuring cashflow and reserves are adequate; ensuring appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place; and ensuring that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs
- Advise the Board of Trustees on the financial implications of LIFEbeat’s strategic plans
- Prepare the accounts and submit to the relevant statutory bodies, e.g. the Charity Commission, Companies House, etc, ensuring that accounts are prepared in the form required by funders
- Oversee and present budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the Board
- Determine that the charity has an appropriate reserves policy and that budgets include full cost recovery
- Liaise with paid staff and volunteers about financial matters including Accounts Officer, Executive Director
General - Trustee Role
- Contribute to LIFEbeat’s strategic direction, help to set overall policy, goals, targets and evaluate performance against agreed targets
- Proactively seek to keep informed about LIFEbeat’s activities and operating environment which impacts strategy and financial execution
- Ensure that LIFEbeat complies with its governing document, charity law, and other relevant legislation or regulations
- Actively support Board and Fundraising initiatives
TERMS OF TRUSTEESHIP
Location: Remote, with flexibility to attend quarterly Board of Trustee meetings (typically 1.5 hours) in London or via Zoom.
Remuneration: Unremunerated
Term: Three years (option to be re-elected for second term)
Time commitment: Estimated at one - two days per month, with capacity to flex upwards should the need arise. The Board meets four to six times per year.
