Hearts & Homes for Refugees is a nonprofit community grassroots organization that works with the U.S. State Department-designated agencies to build communities that welcome, assist and advocate for refugees. We lead a growing network of partners and volunteers --families, neighbors, community organizations, faith, student and civic groups--committed to the time-honored tradition of welcoming refugees. Hearts & Homes educates, inspires and equips people of goodwill to create safe and inclusive communities for our new neighbors rebuilding their lives with hope and dignity.
POSITION:
Entirely remote. Estimated 10-15 hours per week. This is a volunteer position - a minimum 3 month commitment is requested.
This position will support the SIV Assistance Project, which helps eligible Afghans to complete and monitor their SIV application. The project has over 50 volunteers who help contact former supervisors for Letters of Recommendation, contact former employers for employment verification letters, put Congressional Inquiries into stalled cases, contact supervisors for support inquiring on cases, and organize spreadsheets and files for submission to evacuation lists.
The volunteer will work in collaboration with the other Co-Coordinator, as well as Hearts & Homes for Refugees Program Director, Amy Robertson.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assign case files to document checkers.
- Assign checked files to volunteers.
- Become familiar with the procedures and provide support to other volunteers who have questions.
- Help organize spreadsheets and files in Google Suite and Excel.
- Monitor the inbox for questions from cases and volunteers.
- Attend Zoom meetings as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Must be comfortable with Google Suite (using Sheets, uploading files) and Excel.Experience with the SIV application process preferred.
