We nurture strong relationships through 3 dynamic mentoring programs & a peer leadership group, inspiring 7th -12th graders to connect with the community in an experiential afterschool programming.

PROGRAM: The fulltime & part-time members of the VT Youth Development Corps AmeriCorps State Program (VYDC) implement diverse youth initiatives, fostering positive development & building resilience to help youth avoid opioid misuse & other unhealthy behaviors, transcend the effects of COVID-19, and the gain academic, social, & job skills needed to thrive. SITE: Twinfield Together Mentoring Program (TtMP) aims to provide all interested youth in the communities of Plainfield & Marshfield, VT an opportunity for a one-on-one mentoring relationship with a responsible, attentive, and nurturing role model. There are 3 mentoring programs under our umbrella: community-based mentoring, school-based literacy mentoring, and peer mentoring. The VYDC-TtMP AmeriCorps member enhances mentoring relationships across all three programs, develops outreach and public relations for the mentoring programs, and supports high school mentors in their role as peer leaders with younger youth. The member also fosters participation of Twinfield Union School youth in healthy and fun afterschool enrichment activities. The member enhances existing afterschool programs and designs engaging new programs and clubs for 7th -12th grade students. The afterschool space is an opportunity to teach, mentor, and learn new and engaging activities. Twinfield School is located on 60 acres of land in Marshfield, VT, and the AmeriCorps member has access to recreational equipment. Applicants should be willing to be physically active and be able to set good boundaries with youth.

COVID-19: In our community, youth have been isolated for part of the year & have an increased need for interactions and engagement. The member focuses on the social emotional wellbeing of our youth: builds relationships with youth, recruits & supports new mentors & peer leaders, and creates afterschool clubs. Location: Marshfield, VT

Member Duties: The VYDC-TtMP AmeriCorps Member enhances 3 mentoring programs & other afterschool enrichment opportunities for middle & high school youth, builds relationships with youth, organizes activities, and fosters positive youth development & resiliency in our K-12 schoo. The member - (1) recruits, trains, & manages mentors; (2) fosters youth design & implementation of projects with younger youth; (3) communicates the TtMP story through social media, website, & local news outlets; and (4) collaborates with the Afterschool Program Coordinator to design & implement indoor & outdoor enrichment initiatives, including afterschool activities, service learning projects, and Summer Learning Camp for middle & high school youth.
