Help restock two food pantries that sustain New Yorkers in need!
The United Jewish Council of the East Side (UJCES) supports the Lower East Side and wider NYC community with human services and community development programs. While the majority of services are oriented to seniors, UJCES also has programs for families and children. UJCES volunteers are essential to our mission as we serve New Yorkers.
DETAILS:
Food Pantry Assistance Volunteers support staff at UJCES's food pantries. One food pantry is located in the Orenstein Building on Willett St./Bialystoker Pl., and the other is at the Lillian Wald Houses on Avenue D.
During 1-3 dates each month, we seek 10-15 volunteers to help unload and organize a truck delivery of new pantry items, to restock a food pantry. This is a great opportunity for (but not limited to) groups, and individuals who are interested in volunteering monthly!
You must be 14+ years old to volunteer, and groups of volunteers 14-17 years old must be accompanied by parent(s) or guardian(s).
Instructions are provided on site. Tasks include bending and lifting heavy materials. This opportunity involves unloading items from a truck outdoors and bringing them into an indoor facility, rain or shine.
You can join compassionate people in preparing our food pantries in service to the New York City community.
DAYS & TIMES:
These opportunities take place between 9:45 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., on selected Wednesdays, and other weekdays depending on need. We currently have openings on January 12, February 2, and March 2.
HOW TO SIGN UP:
Join the UJCES team! Please complete an online application form at ujceastside.org/volunteer-nyc. You can sign up on your own, or with a group of friends, family, or coworkers (two groups of 10 maximum). You may also email volunteer@ujces.org, as soon as possible, to express interest.
