Recruiting Organization: Birdability
Birdability is a new nonprofit, registered in Texas and operating as a 501(c)(3) organization while awaiting our IRS determination. Birdability is committed to making the birding community and the outdoors accessible, safe, welcoming and inclusive for everybody and every body. Our mission is to remove barriers to access for birders with mobility challenges, blindness or low vision, intellectual or developmental disabilities (including autism), mental illness, being Deaf or Hard of Hearing and other health concerns. Please visit www.birdability.org for more details on the work we are doing.
Birdability is seeking two new members to join our Board of Directors. Specifically, both a Treasurer and an individual with an HR background. These positions offer a tremendous opportunity to be part of a team of birders, including those with their own access challenges and dedicated advocates for the disability community, in a movement that is changing the world of birding for the better. Do you wish to help eliminate obstacles that prevent other nature lovers from fulfilling outdoor experiences? Do you hope to see the joy of birds shared with people having disabilities or other health concerns - people that may have never been exposed to birding and its benefits? If so, you can pursue those goals with us.
Board members are elected to two-year terms and are expected to attend monthly, online board meetings. They should be prepared to invest 10-12 hours per month, to be engaged, energetic, and prepared to take on a range of tasks with a positive attitude. For the Treasurer position, experience in accounting is essential. For the member with HR background, a work history in the business or nonprofit sector is expected. In both cases, further experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, or disability advocacy would also be valuable. Candiates should have strong values around inclusion, diversity, equity and access. Disabled, BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ folks are espeically encouraged to apply.
