ORGANIZATION: Idealist.org

Recruiting Organization: Beyond South America

Are you curious, adventurous and looking for a nice internship or meaningful volunteer position? Beyond South America - a small scale mediation agency in internships and volunteer positions - helps, connects and supports.

The project

The Guatemalan health care system allows people to receive treatment in this medical centre free of charge. There is a night shelter and during the day there are doctor consultations. Many of the departments work with volunteers, depends on the tasks if a degree is mandatory or not. Volunteers carry out different tasks in different departments, including:

● Baby ward: measure length and weight of babies and possibly vaccinate them.

● Family planning clinic: giving consults and possibly giving injections.

● HIV-clinic: testing women on HIV infection.

Based on your skills you could get more responsibilities and possibly work in other departments as well. If you have experience in specific fields like psychology, lab work, dentistry or physical therapy, then there are possibilities in these areas as well.

BSA exists in the service of Casa de la Alegría: a foundation that with its love and dedication supports children and youngsters who have dealt with (family) traumas like sexual, mental and/or physical abuse or addiction. Their mission is to empower vulnerable, precious children so they can finally discover their strengths and talents. In the end both as for the coming future, these children will be able to raise their voice and to embody the new generation which can make a true difference to a local, sustainable and loving everyday life.
