Notre Dame Mission Volunteers, AmeriCorps (NDMVA) is seeking a 'Vocational Case Manager/Enrollment Specialist’ to serve as a Full-time AmeriCorps Member at Jewish Vocational Services (JVS) in Boston from September 2022-July 2023.

JVS’s Refugee Services has provided direct employment services to local refugee populations for over 40 years. These services are offered to refugees, political asylees, Cuban and Haitian entrants, certified victims of human trafficking, and other work-authorized immigrants. Services include job search assistance, resume and interview preparation, cultural orientation, pre-employment vocational English language classes, job placement and follow-up and post-employment support.

The Vocational Case Manager and Enrollment Specialist is responsible for providing case management and career coaching assistance to designated low income, refugee and immigrant participants in the Refugee Services department. They will also assist with client outreach, screening, intake, and enrollment. This individual will gain knowledge about issues related to refugees and immigrants and be committed to assisting them to obtain economic self-sufficiency through job search and training strategies. They will work collaboratively with the Refugee Services staff to identify participants’ barriers to employment and address them, with the goal of creating opportunities for individuals that will lead to successful job placement, retention and career advancement. Additional responsibilities include answering and triaging telephone calls; providing lunch and break coverage to program assistants; emailing follow-up correspondence to potential members/customers; keeping the Welcome Center clean and organized; and other administrative tasks as deemed necessary.

Qualifications:

We invite applications from individuals who are US Citizens or Permanent Residents, over 18, and have work experience or a college education. Applicants with Refugee Experience are preferred for this position. Language skills in Spanish, Haitian Creole, French or other common refugee languages highly desirable.


Applicants should also possess:

The willingness to spend 11 months in the service of others.

Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to be flexible, adaptive, and work on a team.

U.S. citizenship or be a lawful permanent resident.

Commitment to serve as a full-time volunteer for 6-7 months.

AmeriCorps Member Benefits:

  • Living Allowance: Because Notre Dame- AmeriCorps is partnered with the Corporation for National and Community Service, we are able to offer our members a yearly living allowance of approximately $16,000 which is distributed bi-weekly over the 11 months term.
  • The Education Award: Upon completion of an 11 month service term, AmeriCorps members receive a taxable education award of approximately $6,500. The education award can be applied to qualified student loans or future education at a Title IV institution.
  • Student Loan Forbearance: Members of NDA are eligible for forbearance of federal student loans during their term of service. This means that while a member is serving, he or she does not make payments on his or her qualifying loans. In addition, the National Trust will pay the interest that accrues on the loan at the end of the term of service.
  • Community Housing Option: NDMVA Boston is able to offer a low-rent community housing option to NDMVA Members. Please contact boston@ndmva.org for more information.
  • Optional Health Insurance: We provide free optional healthcare while you serve with NDA.
  • Child Care: NDA members may also be eligible for child care benefits.
