Recruiting Organization: The Collective Identity Mentoring

The Collective Identity Mentoring (TCI) seeks a new Treasurer to join our Board of Directors! TCI is a grassroots, Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization built by Black women for Black women and girls. Our organization is dedicated to creating a unique psychosocial safe space for Black women and girls through our mentorship program, confabs, and curriculum tailored to addressing the unique challenges and hurdles Black women face both personally and professionally.

Title: The Collective Identity Mentoring Board Treasurer

Classification: Board Member - One 90-minute Meeting Once a Month.

Reporting To: The Collective Identity Mentoring Board President

Compensation: This is a volunteer position.





Job Description:

This leader is responsible for managing the financial records of The Collective Identity Mentoring. The board treasurer will present financial updates and reports to the Board of Directors’ monthly meetings. The treasurer will create and analyze reports and forecasting. The treasurer will also create and certify the annual financial audit/report. The Treasurer shall oversee the financial operations of the corporation and shall perform such other duties as from time to time may be assigned by the President or the Board of Directors.



Board Expectations:


Our mission is to create a psychosocial safe space for young Black women to explore who they are and how to identify themselves. Our mission is to do this through one-on-one mentoring and programs designed to help them define their path in life.


Board Responsibilities:

As the highest leadership body of the organization, the board is responsible for:

  • Follow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions
  • Sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it during the year if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings
  • Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of TCI.
  • Assisting in determining and approving the mission and purposes of the organization
  • Selecting and evaluating the performance of Executive Director
  • Strategic and organizational planning support
  • Ensuring fiduciary oversight and financial management
  • Fundraising and resource development
  • Approving and monitoring The Collective Identity Mentoring’s programs and services
  • Enhancing The Collective Identity Mentoring’s public image
  • Assessing its own performance as the governing body of The Collective Identity Mentoring.



Expectation of Individual Board Members:

Each individual board member is expected to:

  • Know the organization’s mission, policies, programs and needs
  • Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for The Collective Identity Mentoring’s to advance its mission
  • Leverage connections, networks and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve The Collective Identity Mentoring mission
  • Help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization’s fundraising goals, reputation and good standing.
  • Prepare for, attend and conscientiously participate in board meetings
  • Participate fully in one or more committees.



Time Commitment:


Currently 1 meeting per month, 90 minutes long. One-on-One meeting with the Board President no more than 1 hour per month.
