Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement is looking for volunteers to support ESOL classes for adult immigrants in Queens. Volunteers can help with a variety of tasks depending in your skills and interests, including:
Volunteer Tutor - Support students enrolled in English classes through 1:1 tutoring. By providing extra language practice outside of their ESOL classes, you will help students improve their English skills for practical use such as in social, educational, or professional settings. Volunteers will be matched with an individual student based on mutual availability. Tutor resources and study materials will be provided. Bilingual volunteers (Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, etc.), volunteers with teaching or tutoring experience, and volunteers with TESOL/TEFL certifications are highly preferred!
