ORGANIZATION: Idealist.org

Recruiting Organization: Fundacion RDI - Red De Impacto

What do we do?

Our social program offers free online English tutoring to young people between the ages of 16 and 24 who live in remote locations in Colombia. These young people have been affected by the pandemic, but we have realized that once they begin to learn English, their lives change radically; They have access to more online resources, and they strongly contribute to improving the conditions of their communities.

Currently, there are 70+ students enrolled throughout Colombia and 40+ English volunteer tutors helping us from different parts of the world.

Who are we looking for?

We are currently working on a mobile online platform that helps students in their English learning process by showing them different grammar lessons, scheduling practice sessions with their tutors, connecting with fellow students, among others.

This platform is currently being developed on Bubble, a no-code tool, where programming of functions is done visually. We want to have a functional prototype first that we can try with students and tutors, before migrating to more advanced technologies. We are looking for people who want to be part of the app development team, developing functions and interfaces on Bubble first, and then on more advanced technologies. You will join a team of 10 people, most experts on Web development, UX design, and Project Management.

What skills do you need?

Coding knowledge is desirable, but not mandatory in any way. As explained before, we're currently using Bubble, a no-code tool; learning how to use it is really simple and you can do it while building the different functions and interfaces, then no previous knowledge is required.

What to expect?

Expect to learn about the process of creating online tools; translating user requirements (our students and tutors) into functionalities that will help them in their daily lives. We use a light approach of SCRUM, then expect to also learn about this working methodology. This opportunity will help you practice and learn how to prototype a mobile platform using new tools.

Weekly dedication?

This will totally depend on you and how many and what functions you want to take on. However, expect to spend at least 2 hours a week on this opportunity.

Economic compensation?

Unfortunately not. All team members help voluntarily. However, we can provide you with any certificates or references that you may need in the future about this experience.

Next step?

Send us your resume (CV) to the email ricardoapg1991@hotmail.com and tell us why you would like to be part of the program. As soon as we have this information we will contact you.
