Recruiting Organization: Centro Romero
Centro Romero is a community-based organization serving the refuge/immigrant population in northeast Chicago. Rooted in the deep commitment to social justice exemplified by the eponymous Saint Oscar Romero, we seek to improve the lives and livelihoods of the communities we serve in a number of ways, including through adult education. We are in need of volunteers to help tutor and teach adult students who are preparing to take the GED exam. Our program is holistic, focusing on not just getting students ready to take a test, but preparing them for the whole college experience. You can work 1-on-1 with students or as a classroom volunteer (or both). Hours are flexible--we will work around your schedule. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to avoid a gap in their employment history while on furlough due to Covid-19. And not only is it a great resume builder, but it is also a way to make a difference in the Chicago community. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and walks of life, but you must be 16 years of age or older.
