Recruiting Organization: Roots of Success
Roots of Success is seeking an individual to help us to find and compile educational material focused on environmental issues in Ohio, for our work with incarcerated individual in the state of Ohio. This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity but college credit may be earned. This work would need to be done between December and February, working 10 hrs/week minimally.

Roots of Success
DESCRIPTION
Roots of Success is an empowering environmental literacy and work readiness program that prepares youth and adults from underserved communities for opportunities in the green economy, and to improve conditions in their communities.
Our mission is to ensure that all people have the knowledge and skills needed to accelerate the transition to a more socially just and environmentally responsible economy and society.
Over 90% of our students are unemployed when they take our classes and over 50% take our classes while incarcerated. Upon completing our course, 85% felt their academic skills were greatly enhanced and 86% report that they are in a better position to secure green jobs.
Since 2010, Roots of Success has:
- Prepared almost 25,000 youth and adults for dignified, well paid work in the green economy
- Trained more than 1,700 teachers to foster environmental literacy in prisons, jails, job training and reentry programs, schools and youth programs, and other settings
- Produced 10 customized versions
- Supported hundreds of education and workforce programs throughout the United States
- Roots of Success graduates are working in every sector of the green economy
