Recruiting Organization: The Immigrant Learning Center, Inc.

The Immigrant Learning Center (The ILC) is looking for volunteers to help make our educational resources more accessible and discoverable to a wider audience by providing transcripts and subtitles. There is no prior experience required other than basic word processing and fluency in English.

The process starts with a rough transcription of a video or podcast recording. The volunteer will then make corrections and format the material according to The ILC directions and send them back to become subtitles or published transcripts.

There is plenty of material to choose from. The ILC has produced more than 300 YouTube videos, primarily webinars on a myriad of subjects related to immigrants and immigration, but also citizenship ceremonies, English lessons for speakers of other languages, interviews with immigrant entrepreneurs and other content. About one-third of these videos are not yet subtitled, and very few have transcripts. The ILC also collaborates with the Pioneer Institute to create JobMakers, a weekly podcast featuring immigrant entrepreneurs and leaders.

This is an ideal position for someone who’s passionate about immigrants, accessibility or both!
