Are you seeking to make a difference by contributing your professional skills and knowledge to an organization that saves the lives small animals in our community? We are looking for an enthusiastic and organized volunteer to help raise much needed funds to pay for veterinary care, purchase food and equipment for foster animals and pay for non-profit administrative fees and other expenses associated with the Rescue.
Since its inception in October 2003, Small Angels Rescue, Inc. has saved many guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, mice, and gerbils from euthanasia, abuse, and abandonment. We are a young, growing, all-volunteer, registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that serves an area of desperate need in the community. We do not have a physical location but instead have a network of volunteers in the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia tri-state area.
Here is what this position entails:
As an At-Large Board Members you will provide general assistance, updates and input at meetings.
Attendance at board meetings is mandatory.
Board meetings are held once a month on a Monday evening at 6:30 pm via teleconference for approximately 1 hour and the following month convene in Frederick, MD at 4:00pm for approximately 2 hours.
Each At-Large Board Member is required to oversee one area of the Rescue as a Taskforce Chair (in this case as Fundraising Chairperson) You will be monitoring the work of your team and providing a catalyst for communication between your team and the Board. As part of the governing body you will:
· Be informed and supportive of our organization including its mission, history and core values; whom we serve, their needs and how those needs are met; our governance structure and policies
· Attend and participate in all meetings and events where attendance is required
· Act prudently, seeking information on which to base your decisions
· Respect the integrity of the Board process, supporting decisions once they are made
· Understand and fulfill our specific expectations as a member of the Board and Fundraising Chair
· Avoid conflicts of interest in fact and appearance
· Lead Fundraising team in annual development of fundraising plan, schedules and lead fundraising meetings.
· Seek and evaluate fundraising opportunities, work with Events team to conduct fundraising events.
· Work closely with Grant Writer.
The position will require a commitment of around 2-3 hours per week. Each board term is 2 years.
Experience in fundraising is preferred.
