Recruiting Organization: AVP Colorado
Make a difference in other people's lives as well as experience the joy of personal growth by becoming an Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) workshop facilitator in Colorado's prisons and communities.
Our workshops utilize the shared experience of participants, interactive exercises, games, and role playing to examine the ways in which we respond to situations that can lead to aggressive behavior or violence. Participants discover new ways to communicate effectively, build community, and resolve conflict. AVP has demonstrated results in reducing levels of anger and resolving conflict.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate three-day workshops in correctional facilities and communities
- Lead group exercises, discussions and activities
- Work collaboratively with a facilitating team
Training and Support
To become a facilitator, a person must participate in the Basic, Advanced, and Training for Facilitators Workshop and serve as an apprentice co-facilitator. AVP Colorado relies on well-defined curricula, manuals and support developed by AVP-USA. If you facilitate in a Colorado prison, you must also complete the requirements to become a Colorado Department of Corrections Department volunteer, which includes a background check and training.
Commitment
Workshop days and times vary, and workshops last a total of 18 to 22 hours, over three consecutive days. Some additional time is need for workshop planning. We ask facilitators to help lead at least 3 workshops per year.
