The Finance and Accounting Manager position gives you the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of running a registered non-profit organization from a higher level accounting and finance side. ROCKBlue is a nonprofit that aims to solve the growing gap between reliable water supply and accelerating urban demand by leveraging its large network of highly experienced specialists. We focus on strengthening the ability of water and sanitation utilities to provide these services to the poorest individuals in cities and towns across the developing world. ROCKBlue is offering an opportunity to get involved with our dynamic organization. As Finance and Accounting Manager, you will, directly and indirectly, assist ROCKBlue in reaching its mission, impacting the lives of millions of people. Within our organization, you will have the opportunity to learn from highly experienced finance and accounting experts including directly with our Chief Financial Officer, learn invaluable skills and work with a diverse group of people, situated around the world. The small nature of our organization offers many opportunities for advancement as well as exposure to all business activities.

  • Offer overall leadership and strategic input to ROCKBlue’s Finance and Accounting function, including by attending regular meetings with executive management
  • Manage your and your team’s activities by adhering to ROCKBlue’s OGSM’s (objectives, goals, strategies, and key measures) as well as through the use of Trello action items
  • Ensure ROCKBlue’s accounting firm or the Finance and Accounting team’s timely completion of:
  • Monthly ledgers and accounts (General Ledger, Bank Reconciliation & Trial Balance)
  • Monthly internal audit of accounting records by the Finance and Accounting team
  • Invoices created in Quickbooks, where necessary, and maintained
  • Formal receipts distributed to ROCKBlue’s donors
  • ROCKBlue team members are reimbursed for expenses, and a monthly Loan Request is sent to ROCKBlue’s key donor
  • Payments are processed properly and on time
  • Salary and wages payslips are distributed each month
  • The monthly Income Statement, Statement of Financial Position, and Cash Flow Statement is produced
  • Full Financial Statements are compiled on a quarterly basis
  • The monthly donation feedback report is compiled, as well as expense report and loan tracking report
  • Completion of annual budgets and forecasts for ROCKBlue, including a quarterly budget review
  • Calculation and filing for the taxes of ROCKBlue
  • That the library of documents containing Finance and Accounting policies and procedures of are up to date and usable
  • That the library of templates used in the Finance and Accounting process is up to date and usable
  • Manage Finance and Accounting Intern and all individuals under his/her organizational unit; and seek additional resources if necessary, including from our accounting firm
  • As we are a dynamic organization, occasionally you may be asked to take on responsibilities outside of those listed above.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or similar qualification
  • Finance and/or Accounting management experience, thus demonstrating the ability to manage the Finance and Accounting side of ROCKBlue
  • English proficiency
  • Good communication skills
  • Effective time management
  • Strong IT skills with a preference for G Suite, MS products, Trello, Clockify, and Slack
  • Multitasking skills
