The Leadership Team is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the helpNYC Corporation. They are a support team mainly responsible to the Board of Directors, but also provide administrative and executive support to all of the helpNYC Teams.

helpNYC is seeking a detail-orientated, focused, and organized Volunteer Coordinator to help identify, recruit, and place long- and short-term volunteers in positions with helpNYC. The responsibilities of the Volunteer Coordinator include recruiting and training volunteers, maintaining a database of volunteer information and skills, matching volunteers to opportunities that suit their skills, keeping volunteers informed, and representing helpNYC to the public.

A successful Volunteer Coordinator will be meticulous about keeping records and passionate about volunteer work. They are an integral part of The Leadership Team at helpNYC. The candidate should uphold the values of helpNYC while ensuring the safety and comfort of volunteers in their position.

Volunteer Coordinator Responsibilities:

  • Recruiting, training, and supervising new volunteers.
  • Collecting volunteer information, availability, and skills, and maintaining an up-to-date database.
  • Using marketing tools such as outreach programs, e-mails, and volunteer databases.
  • Keeping new and existing volunteers informed about the organization and volunteer opportunities.
  • Matching volunteers to opportunities that suit their skill sets, and ensuring they understand their responsibilities and receive the proper training.
  • Organizing training and leading on-the-job training.
  • Keeping schedules and records of volunteers' work.
  • Preparing codes of conduct and operating procedures to uphold the organization's values.
  • Ensuring the organization's purpose is conveyed to the public.
Requirements

Volunteer Coordinator Prefered Experience:

  • Extensive experience in volunteering and recruitment.
  • Working knowledge of databases.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organization and team-building skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language. Multilingual skills preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge, understanding, and experience with Google Workspace, Monday.com, and other Google development tools; Mailchimp, and other mass communication tools.
  • Knowledge of remote working best practices and etiquette.
  • Lived experience with mental health concerns, struggles with socioeconomic, being a part of a minority community, experience with homelessness; experience food insecurity; or being underserved in New York City.
  • A resident of the New York City Metro Area or extensive knowledge of New York City.
  • Requirements
  • 18 years of age or older
  • personal computer with dependable internet access

Time Commitment

  • 10 hours per week minimum

  • Training for this position will be provided
  • This position will be part of a collaborative effort on the Leadership Team
