Recruiting Organization: Literacy Coalition of Central Texas

The Events & Engagement VISTA will help MRC increase program funding and community engagement by planning and coordinating MRC’s largest annual fundraising event and coordinating engagement opportunities such as open houses throughout the year. Other responsibilities include developing a network of community resources accessible by refugee team members and building enhanced organizational community through activities and events.

This position is a 12 month, full-time volunteer service commitment. Members receive a monthly stipend, free health benefits including some counseling, as well as one-on-one coaching, monthly professional development opportunities, and training in areas like project management, community engagement, and other topics. At the end of their service, members may choose to receive the Segal Education Award ($6,345) to be used towards loans or future schooling, or a cash stipend ($1,800). Additionally, VISTA members who complete their service year receive Non-Competitive Eligibility (NCE) for federal employment, which allows a VISTA member who meets the minimum qualifications for a job to be hired by a federal agency without having to compete with the general public.
