Torrey Project is looking for an outgoing and mission driven contributor to play a pivotal role across the various Torrey Project initiatives. The communications manager will be responsible for cultivating strategic relationships with key stakeholders as well as internal and external communications including but not limited to main website content, social marketing, media relations and events support. The Manager will be expected to coordinate and collaborate to obtain information, write, edit, design and communicate with key stakeholders including Bootcamp participants, alumni, donors, trainers, mentors, community and business contacts.


Knowledge skills and abilities


  • Communication Skills: Proficiently present information through various avenues including verbal, digital, written, facilitation and persuasion in a group and one-on-one forum.
  • Copywriting: You’re a storyteller with excellent grammar, composition, and proofreading skills
  • Critical Thinking Skills: Critically review and translate business requirements, data and related information for a wide range of audiences in support of business objectives and strategies.
  • Problem-Solving/Agility: Analyze situations and collaboratively generate solutions, readily adapt behavior or new work methods, in evolving and unexpected situations. thinking critically and using creative ways to solve problems. Communicating policies, procedures and complex concepts to a wide variety of skill and interest levels
  • Relationship Skills: Build and maintain relations with stakeholders, identify and relate information, ideas and problems, champion initiatives and ideas based on mutually acceptable solutions.
  • Project management experience: You’re able to track and report on multiple projects as needed
  • Technological skills: Effective use of information electronically and associated systems.
  • Entrepreneurial and Mission oriented: Passion for entrepreneurship and the startup space and identify as a mission-oriented thinker


Key Responsibilities


  • Develop and execute effective and integrated communication plans, including strategies and tactics across all channels, and leveraging all communication opportunities
  • Develop, organize and execute public relations events
  • Write, edit and coordinate distribution of information to market, promote and increase the visibility of initiatives and accomplishments
  • Serve as the main point of contact for problems, questions and concerns regarding the various Torrey Project initiatives managing both internal and external communications
  • Cultivate and maintain partnership and collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders, community, organizations and influencers; participate and represent the organization as needed; maintain current with organizational initiatives, current affairs and connect with stakeholders on these issues.
  • Manage internal editorial and review process for all written content, including executive speeches, press releases, articles and media announcements, website content and social media messaging.

Experience in marketing, fundraising, event hosting, entrepreneurship
