ORGANIZATION: Idealist.org

Recruiting Organization: New Hampshire Migrant Education Program

Are you interested in making a positive difference in your life as well as the lives of New Hampshire's immigrant and refugee families? Do you want to help children and youth overcome unique educational challenges? Do you want to improve in a second language and gain cross-cultural fluency?

The New Hampshire Migrant Education Program is looking for volunteer tutors to serve the children of migrant workers throughout the state of New Hampshire, and especially in Manchester and Concord.

Our students are between the ages of 3 and 21 and come from a variety of countries, including the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya and Rwanda. Tutors work one-on-one and in person with students in their homes, helping with homework as well as improving their English language, reading, and math skills.

With unequal resources and other obstacles in their paths, migrant children and youth are liable to fall through the cracks of the educational system. Volunteer tutors can make a huge impact on the lives of these students, giving them the tools and confidence they need to succeed at the same rate as their peers. Gain valuable experience as an educator and know that you are making a difference in children’s lives!
