ORGANIZATION: USDA Forest Service

Two volunteer positions or two couples will work with the public at the North Fork Visitor Center to share information about the Sawtooth National Recreation Area by phone and in person about opportunities such as hiking, backpacking, camping, fishing, rafting, mountain biking, scenic drives, historical sites, etc. One position or a couple will work at the Stanley Ranger Station on the north end of the recreation area performing similar work.


Volunteer should desire to provide exceptional customer service, have high quality phone skills, and have the ability to read and explain maps. Volunteer will provide 24 to 28 hours per week of service. The service also involves operating a cash register to sell books, federal recreation passes and firewood permits. Volunteers will also assist in taking care of upkeep of Visitor Center and minor maintenance of grounds, about 5-8 hours per week. However, most work is performed indoors.


RV pad or bunkhouse (shared) available in Stanley. Only RV pads available at Ketchum location. Please indicate your location preference in Stanley or Ketchum on your application. At the Ketchum location, limited cell service is available at RV pads and no public internet at the site. However, public internet is available a mile away or at the Ketchum Library, 8 miles south of the recreation area and cell service and email is available at the Visitor Center, just a quarter mile walk from the RV pads.
