Volunteers play an important role in the maintenance and public use programs at the refuge. Volunteers directly affect the quality and success of refuge operations; visitors’ safety, comfort, and enjoyment; and the public’s understanding and image of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.H4:H11


Opportunity for Maintenance Volunteer or Maintenance Volunteer Couple


The refuge seeks general maintenance volunteers to assist the refuge staff with upkeep of public use areas, facilities and equipment. Experience in visitor services and general maintenance will be important for the position. Volunteers will be relied upon to help with mowing, maintaining trails and pollinator gardens, and general upkeep of field office and public use facilities.


Public use duties include working special events, restocking brochures, cleaning the interior and exterior of public use areas including restroom facilities and kiosks. Additional duties may vary depending on individual interest, skills, and talents, as well as refuge projects.


Housing: The refuge has 7 RV pads with electrical, water, and sewer provided in exchange for 24 hours/week of service for an individual or 32 hours/week for a couple, combined. Work hours and daily schedule are flexible. Shared laundry facilities and Wifi are also provided on site.


Local Information: Brazoria NWR is located in Freeport, Texas situated near several coastal communities where local grocery stores, restaurants, shopping, and beaches are a short 20-30 minute drive from your RV site.


A minimum of 3 months is required and longer commitments (up to 9 months) will be considered. We are flexible on start and end dates. If you are interested in volunteering with us, please feel free to call and/or send a resume and a minimum of three references to the contact listed.
