Position Duties: As a uniformed volunteer with the National Park Service, the volunteer serves as a front-line representative of the agency working in the maintenance division. Duties may vary, but may include the following; picking up litter from grounds and trails, perform janitorial work, such as mopping, sweeping, washing windows, removing trash, dusting surfaces, cleaning restrooms and other related tasks. May also perform landscape maintenance, including, but not limited to; operating gasoline powered push mowers, yard vacuums, electric hedge trimmers and other hand tools, assists in fertilizing, weeding, planting trees, shrubs and grass, tree trimming/pruning, and mulching, and related tasks. May assist with non-technical aid in work using basic carpentry, electrical repair, painting, plumbing, and masonry. May also include assistance in the eradication or control of several species of invasive plants. Mechanical methods of control such as cutting and hand pulling are required using various hand tools.
Requirements: Volunteers are required to wear the provided maintenance uniform and represent the National Park Service by acting in a courteous and professional manner with visitors, park staff, and other volunteers. Ability to learn usage of various powered or hand tools and train using proper safety practices such as wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Experience or knowledge with said position duties above a plus.
