We are looking for people who feel good about contributing time to something outside of themselves, to benefit wildlife and visitors to public lands. Trash accumulates daily around gates, entrances, backroad parking lots, front country parking lots, deer check stations, fishing areas, and boat launch ramps.
The sites at Bayou Cocodrie which need it the most are Hoover Slough unit, Brooks Brake Unit, Wallace Lake Unit, and Cross Bayou Unit parking areas. The ideal volunteer team would be two people who can work together to bag trash. A litter grabber/pick up reacher and garbage bags will be provided by the refuge. Duties as assigned include removal of litter, woody debris, and vegetation, and reporting of any new damage to signs/kiosks/gates.
Bayou Cocodrie National Wildlife Refuge is near Ferriday, Louisiana, and is comprised mainly of forested bottomlands and managed wetlands. The refuge is a haven for Louisiana black bear, forest breeding birds, and many other wildlife and plants. St. Catherine Creek National Wildlife Refuge is located along the Mississippi River just south of Natchez, Mississippi. It is well known for the thousands of wading birds, waterfowl, and forest birds, which utilize the dense flooded areas, swamps, bottomland forests, and uplands. The headquarters office for both refuges is at St. Catherine Creek NWR.

Mission Statement
Working with others to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.
Description
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is the premier government agency dedicated to the conservation, protection, and enhancement of fish, wildlife and plants, and their habitats. We are the only agency in the federal government whose primary responsibility is the conservation and management of these important natural resources for the American public.
The agency includes both the National Wildlife Refuge System and the National Fish Hatchery System.
The Service's origins date back to 1871 when Congress established the U.S. Fish Commission to study the decrease in the nation’s food fishes and recommend ways to reverse that decline. (More on our history below.) Today, we are a diverse and largely decentralized organization, employing about 8,000 dedicated professionals working out of facilities across the country.
