ORGANIZATION: SUNDAY LUNCHBOX

Welcome Volunteers,

Sunday Lunchbox supports Austin families facing food insecurity by providing healthy and delicious meals for kids. We support local Texas farmers and small businesses while providing nourishing meals for our children.

The Onboarding Kit Creator makes a great first impression on the kids we serve! Kits typically contain a have a customized canvas lunch bag, an engraved thermos (we already have a volunteer for this, coordinate with them), and a welcome letter for each family, in addition to the food provided each subsequent week. On average, we receive one new family a week, which is about 3-4 kids every few weeks. This position requires an ongoing 3-hour commitment each week.

Please note: Kit (lunch bags and orientation letter) will need to be ready for Sunday deliveries each week. (north Austin-Spicewood Springs and 183 North). A list of new kids will be available by Tuesday evenings. Wednesday through Sunday, you will work on your schedule.

Volunteer Duties:

  • Makes canvas lunch bags for each new kid with their name on them. (Paint, stencil, be creative).
  • Create a welcome letter explaining the program that we can include in the first delivery to new families, evolve as our program does.
  • Use a given small budget to create the best/most welcoming onboarding.
  • ~3 hours/week.

This volunteer opportunity is in an indoor kitchen. We encourage volunteers and staff to stay abreast of current COVID-19 regulations and recommendations as they change. Please make informed health decisions, including social distancing, wearing masks, etc., and bring us your questions to ensure you have the data you need to stay safe.

Mission Statement

Sunday Lunchbox is a 501(c)3 organization improving access to healthy, local food for Austin families. Our mission is to provide nutritious and community inspired food for those most underserved by our food system in Austin. . We believe healthy food is a right, not a privilege.

Description

We’re being creative, to get your kids eating healthy and loving it!

Our Lunchbox Family Program is our longest-standing and core program here at Sunday Lunchbox. Families register for our Lunchbox Family program and receive weekly access to Sunday Lunchbox’s menu of minimally processed, locally sourced products at no cost. These products include fresh produce from local farms as well as shelf stable products and gluten/dairy free baked goods, all containing local produce.

Sunday Lunchbox is able to provide local produce and locally sourced meals by combining our food rescue efforts (Bumps & Bruises program!), our amazingly dedicated volunteer base, and a focus on innovation to produce nourishing and community inspired foods that kids love. Thanks to our wide base of volunteers and community partners, we’re able to deliver the food directly to families and remove barriers of access to those systemically underserved.
