We are currently looking to increase diversity in our volunteer pool in order to help diverse members in our Frederick County community who are nearing the end of life. For now, we would like to bring in bilingual individuals (Spanish/English) to work with our slowly but steadily increasing Hispanic/Latino patient census.
Time contribution from the volunteers would not be too great of a load - when working with a patient, volunteers usually contribute anywhere from 2 to 4 hours/week based on the volunteer's availability. When the patient dies, volunteers may choose to wait a few weeks or months before working with another patient! We are very flexible!
Volunteers do NO hands-on care - they simply provide companionship for a patient, or bedside compassionate presence for patients who are non-responsive, or stay with a patient so an overwhelmed caregiver can get a little break.
(We follow the recommendations of the CDC for all COVID related protocol. Volunteers must be vaccinated against COVID and the flu. We offer these vaccines at no charge for our volunteers)
