Event Description:

Come join the Parks crew for District 3 as we mulch Honeycutt Park.

Volunteer Duties:

Volunteers will use pitchforks, hard rakes, and other tools as needed to help spread mulch in landscaped beds.

Volunteer Impact:

Mulching landscape beds does not only enhance the look of the park, it also helps with controlling weeds and helps with water retention.

Work Environment:

We will be working outside in the elements, so dress accordingly. There is the possibility of uneven ground.

Volunteer Requirements:

Each person must pre-register for this event. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Volunteer under 16 years of age will need a parent/guardian present. All volunteers will need to fill out a release form. Volunteers under the age of 18 will need a parent/guardian to sign their release form.

Other Details:

We will supply tools, gloves, sunscreen, bug spray, and a first aid kit. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing that can get dirty, and sturdy, closed-toe shoes such as sneakers or hiking/work boots.


COVID-19 Policy:

Volunteers and staff must follow the COVID-19 policies below so that projects are safe for everyone.

  • Social distancing must be practiced (6-feet between individuals)
  • Masks/face shields are required for all volunteers (masks not provided)
  • Volunteers must participate in an infrared temperature check
  • State, federal, and local mandates must be followed
  • If you have COVID-19 symptoms, please do not register
  • If you are volunteering indoors you will be required to show proof of full vaccination

Group Registration Information:

Registration as a volunteer is first come, first served. A group leader must email rachel.vannoordt@raleighnc.gov to register. All groups will be required to provide a list of names and emails for their volunteers.

Per department policy, this volunteer opportunity is not to be used towards court-appointed/ suggested community service hours.
