As the oldest and largest non-profit hospice in our area, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice has been providing hospice care since 1983. Hospice is a special concept of care designed to provide comfort and support to patients and their families when a terminal illness no longer responds to cure-oriented treatments improving the quality of a patient's last days by offering comfort and dignity. Hospice care neither prolongs life nor hastens death. Hospice staff and volunteers offer a specialized knowledge of end-of-life care, including pain and symptom management and deals with the emotional, social and spiritual impacts of the disease on the patient, their family and friends.

The 500,000 + hospice volunteers at work through the U.S. are an essential part of the hospice philosophy of care and, in fact, are required by federal law. Many administrative tasks can be completed by volunteers such as filing, typing, addressing/mailing and phone calls. Office hours are 8-5 Monday through Friday and shifts can be two hours at your convenience.

Volunteering can be tailored to your schedule and your availability and even the training program can be tailored to your schedule if necessary.
