Railroad Operations

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to operate a vintage train? The Western Railway Museum is looking for conductors and motormen to help our operations department. Our museum’s main attraction, an 11- mile round-trip Interurban Train Ride would not be possible without our amazing, knowledgeable and dedicated volunteers. If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to operate our historic streetcars, interurbans and LRVs, now is your chance! Our free training program teaches new volunteers how to operate our electric trains in an efficient and safe manner and become both conductors and motormen. Fulfill your lifelong dreams of operating real trains!

Description

Almost every aspect of the Museum, from Conductors, to Motorman, to restoration specialists, to archivists, events, and museum store operations, is run by volunteers.

Be it once per week, once per month, in one of our well-established departments, or just during special events like the Pumpkin Patch each October, or the Scenic Limited trains each April, or the Santa Trains in December, we need your help!

It doesn’t matter if you have special skills and experience or not, we provide all the necessary training. All you need is a willingness to learn, some spare time, and an interest in supporting the Museum’s mission to preserve the regional heritage of electric railway transportation. Come aboard and be a part of California history!
