Does the present situation have you longing for social connection? You're not alone! Did you know that over 40% of seniors admit to feeling lonely? Having regular, meaningful conversations can lessen feelings of loneliness and are vitally important to our health and well-being. AmeriCorps Seniors and Project CARE are looking for volunteers who enjoy connecting through a friendly phone call.
Volunteers will schedule routine calls with seniors through a secured phone line service to check on their well-being, referring any concerns to appropriate Project CARE staff members. In addition to creating new friendships, CARE Callers offer the benefit of increased feelings of safety, wellness, and access to community resources. Research has shown that early intervention strategies like this have delayed or even prevent nursing home placement. Help keep seniors in their homes longer by providing the comfort and security of a reassuring phone call!
Training will also cover information on other services provided by the Office for the Aging, which you can share with your client as related topics come up. We encourage you to share any concerns you may have with the Project CARE staff. Our goal is to help our clients feel safe and find any help they need.
All volunteers will be trained on confidentiality procedures and will sign an Office for the Aging Confidentiality Agreement.
